They seek to combine nation-states into a global federation, but of course, there are serious obstacles to achieving this objective. One stumbling block is the marked religious distinction that forms a natural barrier between diverse groups of people. A new, generic brand of religion could prove extremely helpful in unifying the world under a single belief system, especially if such a religion appeared to seek international unity. Furthermore, since religion has traditionally separated people in accordance with their convictions, this new religious ideology would need to effectively meld the doctrines found in both eastern and western cultures.
