On his website, Jim Marrs is described as “a native of Fort Worth, Texas, Mr. Marrs earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in journalism from the University of North Texas in 1966 and attended Graduate School at Texas Tech in Lubbock for two years more. He has worked for several Texas newspapers, including the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, where beginning in 1968 he served as police reporter and general assignments reporter covering stories locally, in Europe and the Middle East. After a leave of absence to serve with a Fourth Army intelligence unit during the Vietnam War, he became military and aerospace writer for the newspaper and an investigative reporter. Since 1980, Mr. Marrs has been a free-lance writer, author and public relations consultant. He also published a rural weekly newspaper along with a monthly tourism tabloid, a cable television show and several videos. On June 23, 2009, his paperback version of the book, “The Rise of the Fourth Reich: The Secret Societies That Threaten to Take Over America” was published. The book covers much of the relatively recent history of the United States and its global agenda, but for today, we will take a restricted look at some of the rise of the American Empire. There has been a coercive expansion of the influence of the United States reaching back to the 1950s which demonstrates the long standing global dominance. We will begin on page 236 of Jim Marrs treatment of this subject.

“In 1953, a few years after Iran’s Prime Minister Mohammed Mosaddegh engaged in a gradual and lawful nationalization of the oil industry in that Mideast nation, he and his democratic government were deposed by a coup instigated by the CIA. This brought the shah to power, with the monarchy assuming complete control in 1963, and turning Iran into a client state of the United States. Thousands of Iranians, perhaps millions, died during the repressive rule of the shah and his brutal SAVAK secret police. The shah was finally forced out in 1979 by the Ayatollah Khomeini, who quickly became the United States’ latest foreign enemy, despite the fact that he had been on the CIA payroll while living in Paris. The shah was granted asylum in the United States, and a medieval version of Islam took control over Iran, which by 2007 was again a targeted enemy.”

What is often overlooked is that the stated motivation that Marrs gives for this action was thegradual and lawful nationalization of the oil industry by Prime Minister Mohammed Mosaddegh. Marrs continues with a look at Guatemala.

“In 1954, the CIA toppled the popularly elected government of Jacobo Árbenz in Guatemala, which had nationalized United Fruit property. Prominent American government officials such as former CIA director Walter Bedell Smith, then CIA director Allen Dulles, Secretary of State for Inter-American Affairs John Moors Cabot, and Secretary of State John Foster Dulles were all closely connected to United Fruit. An estimated 120,000 Guatemalan peasants died in the resulting military dictatorships.” Jim Marrs,

Notice again the motivation for the action taken by the CIA against the government of Jacobo Árbenz. Guatemala had nationalized the United Fruit Company. It should be clear to you by now that these companies located in sovereign nations had been controlled by the corporations of the United States. All of the assets and profits from these corporations were funneled into the United States corporate entities. The nations themselves received not financial profit. Their decision to nationalize therefore was based upon their desire to receive some value for the resources that were found in their land. The number of times that the United States intervened in the political function of nations will continue to amaze. Marrs lists a few more interventions. Take Libya for instance.

“When Muammar al-Qaddafi tried to socialize the oil-rich North African nation of Libya, beginning with his takeover in 1969, he drew the wrath of the U.S. government. In 1981, it was claimed that Qaddafi had sent hit teams to the United States to assassinate President Reagan, and in 1986, following the withdrawal of U.S. oil companies from Libya, an air attack was launched, which missed Qaddafi but killed several people, including his infant daughter.” Jim Marrs,

It is clear then, that the power of the United States rests not only in its military supremacy. The military indeed provides the ability to maintain global dominance, and its power to intimidate, but its true strength rests in its economic preeminence, that is, its ability to control the resources of the planet. Take for instance the island of Jamaica. The Jamaica Bauxite Institute website says the following.

“The commercial production of aluminium began only in the last decade of the nineteenth century, although the existence of the metal in certain kinds of ores was known by scientists from the beginning of that century. However, until World War II greatly increased the demand for aluminium, little attention was paid to the deposits of bauxite outside Europe and the United States of America, including Jamaica, where geologists had noted the "red ferruginous earth" as far back as 1869, without recognizing its significance. After the first shipment of bauxite from Jamaica in 1952, production increased rapidly, and by 1957 Jamaica had become the leading bauxite producer in the world, with a production capacity of nearly 5 million tonnes of bauxite per year, almost a quarter of all the bauxite mined in the world in that year.”

Of course the United States became the main importer of the Jamaican Bauxite. The only problem was that the Jamaican Government received no profit from their natural resource. WHEN Michael Manley decided to change that arrangement, America became very angry. Note how the Socialist Worker Website describes the situation.

“The People’s National Party annulled previous agreements and imposed a production levy on all bauxite mined or processed in Jamaica. This ruling severely provoked the anger of the US and other ruling classes. A massive, and now well-documented, destabilization campaign followed. Aluminium and bauxite processing were shifted to other locations. The levy was claimed to be illegal and contested by the bauxite companies, which filed actions with the World Bank’s international centre for the settlement of investment disputes.” “How the IMF wrecked Jamaica” the Socialist Worker Website

The United States corporate entities pushed even further.

“After Manley’s refusal to adhere to the terms of the IMF, the economy was strangled by sanctions while a media campaign sent a wave of fear among potential tourists. Lay-offs increased, interest rates skyrocketed and everything from soap to canned fish was in desperately short supply. At the end of the eight years of Manley’s “democratic socialism”, the average income in Jamaica was 25 percent lower and the cost of living 320 percent higher.”

Clearly then, the single applicable text that would apply here is found in Revelation 13 verses 11 and 17.

Revelation 13:11 - And I beheld another beast coming up out of the earth; and he had two horns like a lamb, and he spake as a dragon.

Revelation 13:17 - And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.
